Biografie Lucien Foort
Lucien Foort has been on the forefront of the international dance music scene for years. Apart from his dreadlocked, striking appearance, the ‘Dreadman’ is well known for his energetic dj sets that contain a wide variety of musical styles. Be it soulful house, progressive or electronic driven beats, Lucien knows how to rock any dance floor. Not only dj-ing and producing, Lucien’s also a radio dj and head honcho of his Melody Paradise Company and Southend House brand and merchandise imprint (parties, jewellery and clothing).
Lucien Foort has been musically involved since early youth. As a nine-year-old his mom takes him to the music academy where he studies saxophone and orchestra for eight years. At the age of sixteen, Lucien makes a move from contemporary music into pop and rock as he lands a gig as singer/saxophonist in the symphonic rock band ‘Don’t Panic’. Ever trying to evolve, 2 years later Lucien trades in his singing skills for rap as he performs with rap group ‘Funky Tribe’, but it wasn’t till the early nineties that he breaks through internationally with rave band ‘Quadrophonia’. The equally named track hits hit parades everywhere and sends Lucien on his first tour around the globe.
When the Quadrophonia dust settles in 1995, Lucien is toying with the idea of taking up dj-ing and develops his own signature style. In 1998 his more progressive productions under moniker ‘Funk Function’ (the Empress series) and his ‘Dutch Liquid’ productions (with Ron Matser) find their way into the record crates of the high and mighty of the dance scene, namely Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, Danny Howells, Dave Clark, John Digweed and Sasha. The year is 2000 when Lucien releases his first mix compilation called Singularity. Things speed up fast.
All to soon, Lucien gets worldwide dj residencies in clubs like Gatecrasher UK, Mint and Pacha in Buenos Aires and frequents big festivals like Dance Valley (NL), Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, Homelands, Creamfields, Roskilde and Two Tribes Australia. He performs with the likes of Roni Size, De La Soul, Carl Cox, Sacha, Ferry Costen, Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buren, Tiësto and many more. In 2001 Lucien is asked to do a prestigeous ‘BBC Radio One Essential Mix’ for which he get’s nominated by the British Muzik Magazine. His crowded schedule still allows him to get in the studio to produce remixes for labels such as Additive, Bedrock, Polydor, Positiva and SONYBMG as well as to release his own productions on his label Multitracks. This label is suspended temporarily; Lucien might breathe new digital life into this label in future times.
Lucien scores once again as an internationally acclaimed DJ artist with his mix compilations ‘Singularity I and II’ and ‘Slice’. After a hectic world tour, Lucien decided to focus on his love for producing and making radio. After his successful Friday night show at ID&T radio, Lucien has taken on the challenge of a new 5 hour show on Dutch national radio station 3FM since 2006. On his show ‘LOS!’ Lucien presents the latest and hottest tracks every Saturday from 01.00 till 06.00.
Lucien joined forces with Martijn Ten Velden in 2005. This magical duo released their first single ‘Bleeep!’ on Toolroom Recordings UK. Meanwhile Lucien works solo as well: his production ‘Colour My Eyes’ appeared on Tiësto’s mix compilation ‘In Search Of Sunrise 5’. He remixed Roger Sanchez’ hit ‘Lost’ and Marly’s ‘Saturday’. After completing these remixes, the magical duo teamed up and produced their second single ‘Bassification’. Lucien went into the studio again at the end of 2006, this time together with Erick E to mix and compile the second ‘Sneakerz’ album. After a few well deserved sabbatical months at Jamaica, Lucien turned up in the studio and clubs again to produce tracks like ‘Sound of Love’ featuring Mitch Crown and many, many more.
Lucien’s creativity is not only audible but visible as well. November 2007, he launched his own Southend jewellery range together with Southend Digidread shirts; shirts with a portrait of the Dreadman himself, which he used to press only for his own use. In 2008 Lucien Foort will continue indefatigably with producing, hosting his own radio show, developing more activities for Melody Paradise Music and Southend, even making his plans for his own record label, and of course…making the crowd going wild on the dance floors all over the world!
